10 Random Questions

Alright, this time I'm back for good. Really.  And thankfully, the Listmaster made this week's list an easy one.  All I had to do was answer 10 random questions.  The perfect way to jump back into blogging and Monday Listicles!

1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 23, and find line 4. What is it?
"break open. Place cardamom, cloves, and" (Crockery Cookbook).

2. How many times a day do you say Hi?
Well, yesterday we went to a wedding and today we got together with the Hubs' large extended family, so... a lot.  Maybe twenty or thirty?

3. Have you ever worn a uniform?
In high school. Off-white button down shirt, green tartan kilt and tie, green knee socks, black shoes. SO hawt.

4. What do you think about the most?
Food.

5. How many keys are on your keyring?
Five.

6. What was the last thing you bought?
A Dora ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.  The Lilahbility turns 3 tomorrow!

7. Are you growing anything these days?
Yep, a miniature human.

8. What is under your bed?
Two storage containers, one with wrapping paper, tissue, and greeting cards for all occasions, the other containing clothes I hope to one day wear again once my tiny tenant has vacated.

9. What is most important in life?
Happiness.

10. What is the strangest word you used this week?
"Predilection."  Not that strange, but I like the way it rolls off my tongue.

Things that Make Me Go Hmmm, Lilahbility Edition

This week's Listicle topic, Things that Make You Go Hmmm..., is brought to us by Erin and Ellen at The Sisterhood of the Sensible Moms.  I'm going to put a Lilahbility/toddler spin on this one:

Food tastes better to her when it comes from my plate or her dad's, even when it contains the exact. same. meal.

She doesn't like tomato sauce on her pasta, or sauce of any kind, for that matter, or even for any of her foods to touch, but dipping foods in ketchup or ranch dip is the very height of haute cuisine.

She wants to do everything herself and then collapses into a screaming, frustrated heap when a task proves too difficult for her developing fine motor skills.  By that point she is too far beside herself to even find the words to ask for the help I was offering in the first place.

She somehow manages to get cuter with age.  Why can't I have that power?

Most toys lose their novelty after they've been played with a few times, but she could watch the same episode of Dora 7000 times and never get bored.

After a long nap, she wakes up grumpy, wailing for "Mommy!" but then tells me to go away as soon as I get there.

Without doing anything at all, she makes random strangers on the street smile as she passes.

She'll have her hot dog with extra ketchup, hold the wiener, please.

She has the power to make me simultaneously seethe with frustration and beam with pride.  How does she do that?

If that song is stuck in your head and gotten you thinking about the things that make you go hmmmm..., head on over to the Listmaster's place to link up!

May Marvelousness

Time for Best of the Blogosphere, May 2012 edition.

Bianca simultaneously added a fun new word to my vocabulary and made me snort my drink out my nose with this post: What the Poopfart?  (Caution: refrain from drinking anything carbonated while reading.)

Over at The Adventures of OBB, Kate took a dark topic and made it light.  It's pretty much impossible to feel sorry for this strong survivor, but if you want to know The Top 10 Reasons It Is Cool To Have No Boobs, click here!

I can so relate to Amber's post, Eating Chocolate Chips on the Sly.  Guilty as charged!

Sometimes (um, let's face it, with kids, a lot of times) photo shoots don't go quite as you envision them.  Susan made me laugh with her Mother's Day Photo Fail.

Bruna's daughter showed that she might just follow in her blogger mommy's footsteps with this one:
Advice from a Teenager.  I'm going to have to store some of those tips away in my brain and pull them out in about, oh, ten years or so.

And finally, though I didn't get around to posting much in May, my favourite Lilahbility post was this one, mainly for the photos, because I managed to snap them at that most magical time of day when the sun is setting and light is golden.  And it's been rainy and cold ever since.

Sweet Summer Memories

Summer is coming!  Well, at least in theory.  Vancouver had a delicious taste a little while ago, but since then, the cupboard has been a little bare.  Ah well, at least we have our sweet memories of summers past to tide us over. Which brings me to this week's listicle, 10 summer memories.  I had to dig deep into the archives to bring you some of these:

Camp.

Backbacking around Europe with the man I now call the Hubs.

Heading across the border to the Gorge Amphitheatre for outdoor concerts.  Camping in a huge field in the middle of nowhere just to see the Dave Matthews Band play three nights in a row.

White water rafting.
Yeah, that's me riding up front with the dubious look on my face.
Camping.

Cookouts.
Leftovers, anyone?

Beach days.

Waterparks.

Turning a drinking fountain into our own personal water park on a hot day.

What are your favourite summer memories?  Share them in the comments, and head on over to visit the Listmaster for more Monday Listicles!

So Close We Can Taste It

Okay, so I realize it's not summer quite yet, but on Saturday the Vancouver weather gods gave us a lovely taste of what we hope is to come.  And it was delicious.  Intoxicating.

We greedily basked in the golden light of early evening but gladly shared it with good friends.

These kids enjoyed this little spoonful of summer so much that they wore it all over their adorably dirty little faces.

For now, we will let this small taste sustain us, but it won't be long before we are banging our spoons on the table and begging for more!

Home, Sweet Home

Hello, Monday Listicles!  I've missed you.  It feels good to be back.  So I'm going to play by the rules this week and stick to the topic chosen by the Listmaster herself.

10 words that describe my home:

1. Chaotic, yet 2. SparseWe're moving.  Need I say more?

3.  Brown.  I seem to be partial to brown in my decorating tastes.  This only just dawned on me recently when we started making choices for our new home.  I guess I like my furniture to match my hair...?

4.  Small. But, much like my belly, we're expanding.  (Unlike my belly, we're not expanding by a much; moving from two bedroom condo to a three bedroom townhouse in the same complex we've been living in for the past five years.)

5.  Neighbourly.  If you've been following for a while, you know how much we adore our neighbours and neighbourhood.  Hence the whole not-moving-very-far thing.

6.  Comfortable.  7. Cozy.  8. Warm.  (At least I hope it is all of these things.)

9. Happy.

10. Loving.

Gimme some sugar.

A Weekend Befitting a Queen

If you live somewhere other than Canada, you may not be aware that we celebrated Queen Victoria's birthday this past weekend.  Which basically means nothing to most Canadians other than the fact that we get a long weekend out of it.

This year we spent ours in Whistler with in-laws, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins galore and it was rather grand, as the Queen herself might have said.

Transportation options abounded.  (Okay, not really, but we had a lovely time ogling.)

High tea presented a veritable symphony for the taste buds and the company was equally delightful.

In fact, this guy gave it a thumbs up and declared himself thoroughly amused.

How was your weekend?

Baby Bucket List

In a couple months, life is going to change significantly, and I've been working on a mental list of things I want to accomplish before this baby comes along. Here's what I've come up with for my baby bucket list so far:

1. Enjoy this pregnancy, as there is a very good chance it will be my last.  (I've been doing better at this one since I stopped feeling nauseous all the time.)

2.  Make sure to get lots of photos of myself pregnant, for the same reason as above.  (So far I am failing miserably at this one.)

3.  Be a well-dressed pregnant woman.  (I give myself a B+ on this one thanks to a recent shopping spree.)

4.  Try not to stress too much. (We've bought a new place and are selling our condo, so I might be squeaking by with a C- here.)

5.  Pamper myself a little. (Solid B grade.)

6.  Gain less weight than I did while pregnant with Lilah.  (No comment.)

7.  Get lots of prenatal massages.  (Only one so far.)

8.  Spend time with friends I might not see for a while. (Thankfully, bridal showers, bachelorette weekends, and weddings have a way of making this happen.)

9.  Pick a name for baby boy. (Not even close.)

10.  Spend some quality time with my sweet girl before her world is totally rocked by the arrival of her baby brother.  (I'm hoping July brings lots of opportunities for this.)

Have anything to add to my list, experienced mamas?
