Languishing In My Closet

I'm really not sure how almost two months has slipped by since I last posted an update.  I have a million excuses, but that's another post for another day, and I won't waste your time with that right now. The Listmaster has asked for a list of 10 things in our closet for this week's listicle, so I'd rather waste it telling you about all the things that are in my wardrobe that, at five months post partum, I am currently unable to wear but hope to be able to put to good use again someday:

1.  Shoes and boots with high heels and/or pointy toes.  Shoes that look cute/sexy/stylish but leave my feet and legs aching for sneakers or my "mom boots" (which happen to be really ugly, but really comfortable, warm, and waterproof).

2.  My skinny jeans.  At least 10 lbs of baby weight still need to come off before I can even contemplate getting those on again.

3.  Anything that needs hand washing or dry cleaning.  I consider those washing instructions to be incompatible with baby spit up.

4.  Work clothes: blazers, dress pants, skirts, and blouses.

5.  Any item that limits  quick access to Henry's sole source of nourishment.

6.  Cute handbags that are either too small or too precious to schlep diapers, wipes, and the million other pieces of gear and paraphernalia that seem necessary when toting around a tiny human.

7.  Jewellery; chunky or delicate, that could be ripped from my ears or neck by tiny yet surprisingly strong and persistent hands.

8.  Anything that falls into the category of "lingerie."  (Sorry, Hubs.)

9.  My martial arts gear.  One of these days, I will be well-rested enough and we will have bedtimes under control enough that I will feel confident stepping out in the evenings a couple times a week to rekindle my passion for martial arts... one of these days.

10.  A string bikini.  I am still holding out hope that one day I will regain the confidence (and the muscle tone) to wear it again, but... we'll see.  I'll let you know if and when that joyous occasion ever happens!

Now head over to Stasha's for some more Monday Listicle fun.

  1. Do I remember these days. I actually had 2 closets during the baby making years: the master and the spare bedroom. I would just switch between the baby growing/wearing wardrobe and the more fashionable (but yes, less comfy) after baby wardrobe. Out come the sexy things!
    Along came another baby.
    funny how that happens :)

    1. Oh how I WISH we had space for me to have two whole closets! I guess I'll have to re-introduce the sexy things gradually, because we don't exactly have space for another baby, either. :)

    1. Well, I used to have ABS. There's a small chance they're still under there somewhere, but only time will tell...

  3. Ha. I hear you! Funny but pre baby all I had was string bikinis. Not quite appropriate for baby and me swimming classes ;) you are one hot mama and you know it!

    1. LOL, the first time I bought a tankini was so that I could take baby Lilah to the indoor pool without feeling over exposed. Now it's the ONLY bathing suit I'm willing to wear. For now, anyway!

  4. I hear you too. just when I'm starting to reclaim my closet...we're contemplating #5. Yes. The answer to your question is yes, I am crazy :) one day I won't think about what I'm going to wear with a baby bump, or easy access to my boobs, or a postpartum body in mind. For now, it's my life and that's okay :) One day, right?

    1. Yes, one day. And obviously the limited wardrobe, weight changes, and lumps and bumps are all worth it. I still think you might be slightly off your rocker, but to each her own. ;) Those of us who can raise five kids without throttling any of them should go forth and multiply!

  6. Keep the faith! 5 months post-partum is brutal! (Come to think of it, I could be doing a lot better at 15 months pp...) Those transitional stages are rough. The most important thing is to cut yourself some slack for now!

    1. Oh, don't you worry, the slack has definitely been cut! ;)
(As evidenced by the dozen or so oatmeal chocolate chip cookies I downed yesterday.)

  7. Ditto to all - my youngest just turned 5 months old yesterday. Although I could never wear a string bikini in the first place due to my large chest, so that's not on my list.

    1. Here's to a future in which we someday return to wearing whatever we feel like, rather than what's most comfortable/baby-friendly/not-covered-in-spit-up!!!

  8. At 7 months after baby I am finally down to my weight... too bad I have to lose the 10 lbs from the 1st one! Ugh!

    1. Not too shabby, though! That last 10 is the hardest.

  9. I remember not being able to wear jewelry when my girls were babies. Funny thing is, now that they are tween/teen I can't wear my jewelry because I can't find it because it is always borrowed. :) Ellen

    1. LOL, that's already starting with my three-year-old! (Though clearly I have to limit her borrowing to stuff that is sturdy and I don't treasure too much.)

  12. I've finally had a moment to read your post and had a good laugh over the "mom boots" mainly because I have a pair that meets the exact same description....lol. One day I'll fit into my cute shoes again too....sigh
