10 Sounds that Drive Me Bonkers

Best thing about Mondays? Listicles!  This week, the Listmaster has asked for a list of ten sounds that drive us bonkers.  This was easy, because as it turns out, there are plenty of sounds that drive me bonkers.  Also, I just really like the word bonkers.

1. Whining
2.  SOMEBODY (ahem!) snoring when I myself can't sleep.
3.  The high-pitched buzzing of old TVs and computer monitors.
4.  Family Guy playing in the background while I'm trying to write or read Monday Listicles posts.  Guess what's on at this very moment???
5.  The voice of Map in Dora the Explorer.
6.  Mosquitos buzzing in my ear.
7.  A garburator with a foreign object lodged in it.
8.  Caillou. See number 1 above.
9.  CERTAIN PEOPLE (again, ahem!) saying "Huh?" in response to every. single. thing. I say to them.
10.  Pretty much any noise made while I am trying to a) sleep or b) concentrate. I'm persnickety like that.

  1. I'm seeing a pattern with Calliou and whining. One in the same? I think we just cracked the code.

    1. Yep. He might just be whinier than my own kid, which is saying a lot! ;)

  2. Anything Dora the Explorer drives me mad. It seems as though a lot of us have similar dislikes, and whining has come up on almost all the lists I have seen. I see a pattern. ;)

    1. The whining is definitely a mommy peeve.

  3. Caillou is the most annoying kid ever. And why are his parents androgynous?

    1. And always happy... They must drink a lot of hard liquor.

    2. Haha, yes, a whiny kid like Caillou would be enough to drive anyone to drink!

  4. Absolutely YES to mosquitoes and Caillou! It sounds like I should be thankful Dora wasn't around when my boys were young. Phew!

    1. Definitely. But it seems to be the girls who tend to get more into Dora anyway, so you probably could have dodged that bullet either way. Unfortunately, Lilah has been OBSESSED. Thankfully, she is beginning to branch out a little with her TV viewing lately.

  5. YEA yes yes, to "huh?" makes. me. crazy. i have made the word illegal in my house. i want a "pardon me?" IF you REEEEALLY didn't here me...which most of the time they do and the "huh?" is just an ugly habit!

popping over from Monday Listicle, it's my first week playing, not sure if people visit each other but i thought i would try to visit a few blogs.

    1. I'm beginning to ignore the "huh?" and wait for a "pardon" from kiddo, but it's a bit challenging with Daddy setting the example with "huh?"s all over the place!!!

  6. Huh? Just kidding. I hate that too! I've graduated from Caillou luckily but now I have Sponge Bob...

    1. Oh yuck. I hope we never get into Sponge Bob. Too much attitude!

  7. All things Dora the Explorer should be on this list. It is a very annoying show.

    1. I couldn't agree more! Thankfully, the Dora obsession seems to be waning around here. It went strong for almost a year, though, so you can imagine how my ears must be bleeding...

  8. Number 3...yes yes yes! And the lightbulbs in places that hum! That sound is so high pitched and I just want to shove my foot through whatever it is!

    1. I agree. It means we have good hearing, though. Most people over the age of 30 can't hear at that frequency any more. So there's that.

  9. #5 is the reason we have Dora ban in the house. Great list!

    1. I'm so happy to report that Lilah has started branching out with her TV viewing, so I'm getting a much-needed reprieve from those awful voices!

    1. I always wonder if my sleep habits mean I'm a bit uptight???

  11. So far we've been able to get away with banning programs in the house, so the annoying kid characters don't drive us batty!

    1. Good thinking. TV is a lifeline for us when we need to get dinner made, but Lilah is completely unaware of the fact that we could play kids' music in the car... we never started that trend, thankfully!

  12. #10 is so me too! Nothing throws of my train of thought as someone trying to get my attention. I could have written this! Except I would include all Dora characters...

    1. Our lists WERE pretty similar! I agree about the Dora characters, actually, but Map is the one who is most likely to send me screaming into the streets like a crazy woman.

  15. Persnickety is one of my favorite words. Snoring has been killing me lately, too. I bought him some saline nasal spray and it has been like a miracle. Worth a try. :) Ellen

  16. I feel the same about Caillou and Dora's map. Your list made me laugh out loud. Woohoo! Whining is my #1 too.

  17. I can thankfully say we have NEVER watched Calliou! However, I now have the MAP's voice looping through my head....sigh....thanks.

  18. Calliou is so annoying!! Ah! And family guy!

  19. Um, did you see how coincidental it is that YOUR #1 matches MY #1? (-: I wonder how many wives have this as their no. 1?

  20. I'm noticing lots of Dora on these lists (I say as it's playing in the background)!

  21. Apparently, poor Dora is making people cra.zy!
Some days, I hate hearing mom/mama/mommy/ma at about the 300th time. Eek.
